As winning entry in the Special Anthro Week, let me quote *LeonaWindrider presenting her piece "Heart of Courage - Final Cover": "Here we come to my suggestion from my own gallery, which I must admit that I'm still shy about submitting as a hopeful DD. To say I worked my butt off for this pic would be an understatement. This is the first picture that I've ever fully and completely rendered in digital form, and I have to tell you that not having any formal training in Photoshop at all was a great challenge here. Over the month and a half that it took to paint this, my painting skills in Photoshop actually evolved and I had to go back to earlier parts of the picture as a result. While I can quite frustratingly point out every single flaw in the entire painting , I can secretly say to you that I'm proud that I stuck such a large endeavour through the end. I feel like I've got my own blood, sweat and tears mixed in with that digital paint."

Description

This is the cover to the second edition of "Heart of Courage - Book One of the Narscix War", and the book should be out early 2007. I'll have more specific info later.

I am dead tired.

This is 324 layers, and the original image is 2,538 px by 3,600 px, and 194 MB. Why so many layers you ask? Because I'm insane, that's why. But let me tell you, having every little thing on a seperate layer comes in handy later on down the road when you decide you want to change it.

I lost track of how many hours this took, but it's taken me over the past month to paint via Photoshop (which started to complain furiously near the end due to the file size...). The semi-annoying thing is that I've been at this so long that my painting skills actually evolved throughout the course of things, and I had to go back and do some touch ups.

(Update: Heart of Courage is now in print and available online at a variety of places including Amazon.com --> [link] and BarnesandNobel.com --> [link] )

EDIT: I really just don't know how to begin here -- I logged on this morning to check my messages, and was floored when I saw this piece had just received a bunch of favorites all in a row. I just sat there and stared at the computer screen for a good minute, sorta frozen. It took me a bit before I could even open a window to the picture to check -- I really did not expect this.

To ^skifi, thank you for featuring this -- it means a lot to me. To everyone who has commented and faved the piece, I'm truly thankful...

These characters emote so well here, I feel like I know them already simply from this. Each of them comes across as distinct, unique and well developed, this is truly great characterization, and the composition is excellent. Very well done!
